Chapter 10

Laughter erupted all around

She actually ate it. Doesn’t she know how dirty it is?”

How disgusting!”

Look at her hands! So ugly!”

The whispers and blatant comments weren’t even said behind her back

But Rosella didn’t seem to mind. She smiled and said, It’s very sweet. Thank you.”

It was indeed sweet

The last fruit she’d eaten was a rotten apple, bitter, sour, and awful

Jillian curled her lips. Since you like it, have some more.”

Just as Rosella reached for another piece, the fruit platter was snatched away. Millard’s shadow loomed over her. He stood before hertall, lean, and exuding a cold nobility that felt unreachable

Without a word, Millard tossed the entire platter into the trash

The room went dead silent

Millard despised games like this. Only kids would humiliate others for fun. A rare flicker of irritation crossed his face. Whether it was anger at the people or disdain for Rosella’s fall from grace, even he couldn’t tell. If you like it so much, pick it up then.”

He threw both the plate and the soiled fruit into the trash, bent down to

wipe his hands clean with a tissue, and walked out of the room

Through the door came the clamor egging Rosella on to dig in the trash

Millard couldn’t stand it anymore. He walked away quickly, then realized he’d left his phone behind. As he turned back, he passed the restroom, only to hear the sound of violent retching coming from the inside

Too much alcohol in the system could kill you

Rosella was vomiting uncontrollably, tears clinging to the corners of her eyes, limbs limp. She rinsed her mouth, washed her hands, and stumbled out, only to be startled by Millard standing at the door. Rosella immediately stood still, back hunched, neck slightly bowed. In a trembling voice, she murmured, Mr. Dunn.”

Despite all the humiliation she’d endured, she acted as if nothing had happened and still respectfully addressed him as Mr. Dunn

Millard found it hard to believe this was the same Rosella. You knew what would happen if you came, so why did you still come?”

My brother was just teasing me.Rosella had long since learned how to swallow pain. This kind of torment didn’t even register

Your brother?”

She still called Dewey her brother, yet she addressed him as Mr. Dunn. That deliberate distinction in closeness made Millard scoff with rage. He’s not your brother anymore. If you’re trying to cling to some distant relationship, you’ve got the wrong person.”

Back when Rosella and Angeline were kidnapped, Dewey chose to save Angeline over his own sister. Millard saw Dewey beat himself up for that. He mumbled with tearful eyes that he was sorry for

abandoning Rosa

But then, after the police arrived and subdued the kidnappers, the interrogation revealed Rosella had orchestrated the entire thing. Dewey’s guilt vanished. He said he’d rather she had died instead

Rosella smiled sadly, Sorry, I should say Mr. Rowe.”

Dewey said you met with Elliot?”

Rosella didn’t get why Millard would ask that question, but she figured he must have his reasons, so she just nodded

If you can, marry him as soon as possible.”

She had already made it clear she wouldn’t pester him anymore, yet he still couldn’t trust her. He was still urging her to get married

It made sense

After all, it had taken Millard so long to get rid of her. His lingering wariness was only natural

But Mr. Freeman doesn’t like me.That was the truth. Rosella didn’t want to lie anymore. Then, remembering something, she quickly added, But don’t worry. I won’t start harassing you again.”

A phone rang

Rosella ignored Millard’s cold expression and answered the call. Turning slightly, she covered the receiver with her frostbitten hand

Okay. I’ll be right there.”

Millard blurted out before he could think, Dewey?”

No,Rosella murmured, her voice muffled. It’s Elliot.”
