Clenching my fists, I fired back, “What evidence do you have to say that it’s my who’s trying to file a fraudulent claim?”
mother
Snorting, Gigi replied, “So what if we don’t have any evidence of that? We’re not here to prove your mother’s guilt today.”
Frowning, the judge warned us to maintain order in court.
When it was time to read the verdict, I felt as though my heart was being squeezed. Alas,
Gigi was declared innocent due to insufficient evidence.
As we were leaving, I saw the smiles of joy on Zachary’s and Gigi’s faces. That felt like
mockery to me. All of a sudden, I wondered if Zachary could keep that smile up once he
found out who Gigi had killed.
They happily walked out of the courtroom, only to find me standing at the entrance with an unpleasant expression.
“Why are you still here, Annette? I’m warning you. You’d better not do anything rash!” Zachary declared.
He stood defensively in front of Gigi and eyed me warily as he continued, “If you do anything to harm her, I’m going to file for a divorce!”
Seeing how nervous he was, I smirked scornfully and replied, “I’ll hold you to your word
then.”
Reaching into my bag, I took out the divorce papers I had prepared and handed them to Zachary, saying, “Read it. If you don’t have any objections, you can go ahead and sign it
now.”
Zachary stiffened and stared at me in disbelief, but soon, his expression regained the usual
confidence and derision toward me that I was used to seeing.

“What trick are you trying to pull this time, Annette? Do you think this act of yours will work on me? Ask anyone who knows us. Everyone knows you can’t be without me.‘
I simply looked at him expressionlessly.
I couldn’t be without him, huh? Perhaps that was true in the past. Having grown up without receiving much love from my family, I craved love from others. It felt like a lifeline to me.
The more he wanted to leave, the more flustered and afraid I would be to let him go.
But there was a limit to everything. Even parents would eventually be disheartened by their
children’s behavior, let alone a wife with her husband. With each instance of him hurting
me by choosing Gigi over me, I slowly withdrew from our marriage too.
However, once Zachary saw the indifference in my eyes, he sensed that something was
amiss. Lowering his arms, he asked in a slightly panicked voice, “Are you serious about
divorcing me?”
