CHAPTER 76
ÁRIA’S POV
“How dare you call my daughter lowly?”
Elodie intervenes, jumping to Eva’s defense as if on cue. Didn’t I expect that? She starts emphasizing how kind they were to me when I had nothing, portraying themselves as my saviors during my lowest moments.
“We took you in and treated you like family.”
She declares, her voice dripping with self–righteousness. Now, according to her, I’ve transformed into a bully, using my wealth to lord over them. The hypocrisy is infuriating. How conveniently she overlooks their own behavior, the manipulation, and deceit.
The double standards are astounding, and her attempt to rewrite history only makes me more resolute in standing my ground.
“Oh really?! You both treated me worse than the Millers‘ maids. Do you suffer from amnesia or something?”
My sneer leaves all three of them baffled. I begin listing all the wrongs they did to me; making me hand wash their clothes, iron them, set the table, litter around the house, and then ordering me to clean up after them.
The list of grievances is extensive, but I press on, detailing the humiliations I endured at their gatherings. I recount how I was shamelessly labeled a gold–digger, scorned as a good–for–nothing woman, and subjected to cruel taunts about my perceived barrenness. Each insult cuts deeper than the last, fueling my determination to expose the truth behind their façade of civility.
“Is this what you call being nice?”
I see Adam’s eyes widen in shock. I bet he never realized what I had been through; he was too blinded by his own perspective to see the truth. Every time I needed him, he seemed more absorbed in his business and protecting his mother and sister, as if I were the one posing a threat to his family.
“Why haven’t you told me before?”
Adam muttering those words to me leaves me questioning whether they were intrusive thoughts or if he really dared to voice them. The confusion mingles with a growing sense of betrayal, making my heart pound faster.
How could he be so oblivious to the torment I endured? The realization stings, a sharp reminder of the blind loyalty he has shown to his family over me. Anger and sadness well up inside me, but I refuse to let them see how deeply they have hurt me.
Instead, I stand taller, more resolute, determined to expose the truth and reclaim my dignity.
“Since when did you care, Adam? You’re responsible for this!”
The fact that he had always shown his contempt towards me made everyone close to him treat me worse than a maid. His disdain set the tone, allowing them to mistreat and demean me without a second thought.
“My brother never ill–treated you. You trapped him into this marriage with your scheme and expected him to forgive you?”
She even has the audacity to claim that her brother did me a great favor by providing me with a lavish home to live in and a secure job. Offering the basic needs to their wive, isn’t every husband’s duty? What’s the big deal?
Seeing Eva stand up for her brother might seem admirable, but her attempt to defame me once more is utterly unacceptable. She shifts the conversation away from Neal, zeroing in on my relationship wit.

Her eyes glint with a malicious glee, trying to paint me as someone unworthy and deceitful. It’s infuriating how she manipulates everything, diverting attention from her own misdeeds and attempting to undermine my integrity yet again.
Eva goes to the extent of removing her phone and displaying pictures of Regis and me at the restaurant that night. “After your divorce, you just tried trapping another Miller. How about that, Miss Gold–digger?”
Her relentless attacks are beyond infuriating, but I refuse to let her distort the truth any longer.
I’ve reached my limit with the way Eva confidently spreads lies about me and tarnishes my reputation at every opportunity she gets.
If no one fixes her, I’ll do it now. Therefore, I quickly take my phone, record the scene and everything she is saying, which astonishes her.
“Be ready to go to jail for invading my privacy. First the rumors, now clicking photos of me without consent!”
