Kendrick and Valerie hadn’t walked far when Gavin rushed after them.
“Ms. Taylor, please wait.”
Valerie turned around, puzzled. “Gavin, does Mr. Deven still have anything to talk to me?”
Gavin’s meaningful eyes landed on Valerie.
“Ms. Taylor, Mr. Deven said you were assertive. He gave you three days, yet you took just one to make a splash and turn things around. However, Ms. Taylor, you overdid it a bit, sending Galaxy Group’s stock price into a nosedive. He’s willing to let it slide this once, but when you join the Deven family later, you must learn the rules.”
Valerie’s face froze, and as she heard the rest, her expression grew even more unpleasant.
Was Gavin clearly about to tell Kendrick that she had orchestrated last night’s incident?
She guiltily turned her head and glanced at Kendrick.
A flicker of suspicion crossed Kendrick’s eyes. “What three days?”
Gavin, feigning a slip of the tongue, hesitated. “Oh? I forgot. Mr. Deven asked me to talk to Ms. Taylor privately. Ms. Taylor, I’m sorry. Since this is about you and Mr. Kendrick, you’d better explain it to him yourself.”

With that, Gavin walked away without looking back.
Kendrick was silent for a moment. After piecing things together, he began to vaguely understand something.

“So, you were the one who arranged for the TV reporters this morning in advance, weren’t you? You actually set this whole thing up?”
Valerie clenched her hands tightly and pursed her lips.
She knew very well that given Kendrick’s personality, once he became suspicious if she didn’t come clean, the rift between them would only widen.
“Kendrick, I only wanted to hire a paparazzi to take some photos. I have no idea why they turned out to be TV reporters and made such a huge deal of it.”
Kendrick had feelings for Valerie and had considered marrying her if the Deven family didn’t object.
But being schemed into this situation made Kendrick feel extremely repulsed.
When pushed into a corner, one was bound to feel rebellious.
Valerie noticed Kendrick’s grim expression and tried to hold his hand. “Kendrick, I just want to be with you so badly.”
Kendrick remained silent and walked on.
“Kendrick” Valerie noticed him avoid her touch, and her eyes quickly welled up.
Kendrick then turned around to face her, his voice tinged with helplessness. “Don’t we have a press conference? The

reporters are waiting. Come on, dry your tears!”
Hearing this, Valerie let out a sigh of relief.

She quickened her pace and threw herself into Kendrick’s arms, wrapping her arms around his waist.
Her voice was soft and pleading as she said, “Love makes one selfish. I want to be with you openly. Kendrick, I know you’re angry with me, but Kayson only gave me three days. If I couldn’t be by your side publicly, he would have punished me.
“I had no choice, but I just couldn’t bear to lose you, so I resorted to this.”
Kendrick thought about how Valerie had endured so much by his side over the years. A pang of deep pity hit him, and he suddenly embraced her tightly.
Love truly could make one selfish. It was all because Valerie loved him so intensely.
But Talia… she had never schemed against him…
He dropped his gaze, his eyes clouded with sorrow.

Maybe it was the new environment or the fact that she was getting married early the next morning, but Talia couldn’t sleep.
She tossed and turned in bed, wide awake. Suddenly, she heard the sound of the door lock turning outside.
She checked the time. It was already 12:30 a.m. Was he back?

Talia put on her slippers and got up. Just as she reached the entrance, the door opened from the outside.
Kayson, still in his suit and shoes, was drunk. As he entered, he stumbled over the threshold and lunged towards her unexpectedly.
Caught off–guard, Talia staggered back a few steps and instinctively caught Kayson.
She stared in surprise.
The scent of male hormones filled her nostrils. His nose brushed against her cheek, making her cheeks heat up slightly.
The door behind him closed automatically, cutting off the corridor light.
In the dark room, Talia could hear Kayson’s heavy breathing and the faint rubbing of his face against hers.
Talia turned her face slightly, but the corner of her lips accidentally grazed Kayson’s cheek.
Instantly, she felt as if she had been shocked by an electric current, and her heart pounded wildly.
What did she just do?
Did she kiss him?
With her fingertips trembling ever so slightly, Talia instinctively clutched at the fabric of Kayson’s shirt on his chest, determined to keep him from falling.
At the same time, she lowered her head and surreptitiously

Thankfully, due to his heavy drinking, Kayson had rested his forehead on her shoulder and didn’t seem to have noticed her accidental touch just now.
Talia let out a quiet sigh of relief and softly asked, “Are you all right?”
She mused to herself, “How much alcohol did he have to drink to get so drunk?
“Indeed, being a boss these days isn’t easy at all.”
Kayson remained silent, but his dark eyes flickered when Talia accidentally kissed him.
He reached out a hand and wrapped it around Talia’s waist. His thin lips exhaled the heady scent of alcohol, and his low voice was slightly hoarse as he said, “My wife, you’re still up?”
Wife … wife?
Talia pursed her lower lip. Hearing that address so suddenly felt like she’d been jolted by lightning.
But then again, they were going to get their marriage license the next day, so perhaps it wasn’t inappropriate after all.
Presumably because of the excessive alcohol, Kayson spoke very slowly. “It’s so late and you’re still awake. Were you waiting for me?”
Talia didn’t respond and instead helped him sit down on the sofa.
Perhaps because he was intoxicated, the man who had been

so reserved and composed during the day seemed less imposing and, in fact, looked rather like a clinging boy.
A clinging boy?
As soon as that thought crossed her mind, Talia quickly dismissed it.
“Do you want some water?” Talia squatted down in front of Kayson and looked up at him. “Shall I get you a glass?”
Kayson closed his eyes and didn’t reply, as if he was on the verge of falling asleep.
Talia waited briefly. Receiving no response, she turned to leave. Suddenly, a hand shot out from behind grabbed the back of her neck and yanked her back hard.
Caught off guard, Talia landed on one knee on Kayson’s thigh.
Before she could fully process what was happening, Kayson’s hand suddenly touched her forehead.
As their eyes met, Talia’s heart raced, feeling as if it was about to leap out of her chest.
The intoxicated Kayson exuded a domineering and aggressive
aura.
The breath carrying the scent of alcohol fanned across her face.
Time seemed to stand still. Just as Talia began to relax
slightly, the next moment, Kayson’s warm lips pressed against
hers.
Talia felt as if she were in a dream.

Otherwise, how could she explain being kissed by Kayson like
this?
Her legs were spread apart as she found herself sitting on Kayson’s thighs. Kayson held her waist with one hand, pulling her tightly against him.
Talia was so stunned that for a moment, she even forgot to push him away.
By the time she came to her senses, Kayson had pried her lips apart, and the shirt on his chest was so rumpled.
