CHAPTER 95
ARIA’S POV
I am in the library, engrossed in one of my favorite books, when Regis bursts in. His face is flushed, and it’s clear something has happened.
“Aria… Why have you moved back in here?”
Regis‘ question baffles me. I had complétely forgotten about the last time he confessed his feelings for me, and I hadn’t responded. Regis seems panic–stricken. I can see how worried he is, thinking that I’ve patched things up with Adam.
“Calm down, Regis. Have a seat first and let’s talk about it.
Regis does as told, but he looks so impatient. I begin narrating the whole incident to him; how Adam risked his life to save mine after the business dinner party, Adam ending up being unconscious and then Sophia coming to visit when Grandpa was with Adam. I emphasize on the fact that Sophia is the cause for Grandpa’s condition. “Saving you is one thing, but you coming back to this house is another.”
Regis is right, but I am sure when I explain everything to him, he will understand. I take a deep breath and start recounting the events, hoping he’ll see things from my perspective.
“I’m doing it for Grandpa’s sake.”
Regis furrows a brow, waiting for me to clarify further. I tell him that because of the shock, Grandpa has had partial memory loss and he forgot the divorce part which Sophia had already revealed to him before he collapsed. I tell him how after hearing about the divorce Grandpa has lashed out so much at Adam and been in a very battered condition.
I also tell him about Grandpa vomiting blood and then collapsed. We didn’t think that his health condition would get worse until when I went back home, Adam called me urgently. Regis listens to me and I tell him that I am here only for Grandpa and nobody else.
“I’m sure he’ll remember soon and then I can move out.”
“What if Adam takes advantage of this situation?”
“Nothing like that will happen.”
Regis does not seem convinced, and doubt lingers in his eyes. Despite my detailed explanation, I can see he’s struggling to trust the situation. His expression is a mix of confusion and concern, and it cuts me deeply. The furrow in his brow and the tight set of his jaw speak volumes. He’s trying to understand, trying to believe me, but the distrust is evident.
“How can you be so sure that he’ll not take advantage, Aria?”
Regis‘ voice trembles with frustration. I feel a lump forming in my throat, my chest tightening with the weight of his words.
“Nothing will happen.”
“I don’t want to see you get hurt again.“,
Regis shakes his head, his disappointment palpable, his voice softening but still laced with pain.
The tension between us is almost unbearable, and I can see the conflict in his eyes. He wants to protect me, to keep me safe from further pain, but my decision is tearing him apart. I know this conversation is far from over,

and the unresolved emotions hang heavy in the air.

I decide to change the topic of conversation and ask Regis if he has any information about Eva. Finally, Regis is even more serious when he tell me where Eva is.
“Adam locked her in some private jail of his where he can torture her.”
His response catches me off guard. Regis adds that Adam aimed to retaliate against Eva for her attempt on my life. Despite my surprise at Regis’s revelation, I’ve long harbored doubts about Adam’s feelings for me. It seems plausible that only when his own life was endangered did he act against Eva.
Anyway, he’s cruel to everyone, so it’s no surprise that Eva has become a victim of his punishments.
“How cruel of him!”
Regis stares at me when I speak my mind. Of course it is cruel of him. Who keeps his sister in a private jail to torture her?
“Anyway, it’s also good that Eva is out of the street. In this way, she won’t plot against anyone.”
“Yeah, Adam will not let her get away.”
Alright, I get that. At least Adam has kept his promise. But where’s Elodie? I wonder,
