Chapter 7
Jack’s mask finally shattered. The color drained from his face as he stammered, “Last night… you were awake the whole time, Lily?!”

I couldn’t help but laugh, the bitterness in my voice sharp. “Lily, I was just trying to save our special moments for after marriage,” he tried to explain, his voice frantic. “You’re the most precious thing in my life, so I was just using her to satisfy some… physical needs.”

“Rachel means nothing to me,” he insisted, “She’s just a disposable outlet. You’re the only one in my heart, Lily. The only one I’ve ever loved.”

Before I could even respond, Rachel, unable to take the humiliation any longer, reached out to confront Jack. But he shoved her aside with barely any effort. I’d almost forgotten about this ungrateful wretch.

At my signal, the screen behind us flickered to life, showing the large sums of money I’d transferred to Rachel over the years. Then came our chat logs from earlier that afternoon, where she’d taunted me and even told me to kill myself.

The crowd gasped. Their murmurs quickly turned to fury.

“I can’t believe people like this exist! Living off someone’s kindness, stealing their fiancé, and acting like they’re the victim?”

“Which school or company is she from? We need to expose this social parasite!”

Rachel, realizing how much worse this was about to get, tried to yell at me, but Jack slapped her hard enough to send her crashing to the ground. His rage was beyond control.

“You shameless bitch!” Jack yelled. “I was just messing around with you! How dare you say that about Lily?”

He grabbed her by the hair, turning to me with pleading eyes. “Lily, I’ll get rid of her bastard child right now! Please, forgive me! We can still get married, we can be happy, I promise!”

I couldn’t help but let out a cold laugh. “Jack, what makes you think I’d ever choose you? A man so utterly rotten?”

I leaned in, my voice calm, but deadly. “And don’t forget, today is my engagement party… with your brother, Ethan.”

That’s when Ethan, with a gentle smile, wrapped his arm around my waist. “Darling, it’s time. Shall we go up together?”

“No! Lily, you can’t marry my brother! I won’t let you!” Jack screamed, struggling against the bodyguards holding him back. But it was pointless.

Ethan and I made our way to the stage, the entire room watching as we exchanged rings, officially announcing our engagement. The troublemakers were swiftly escorted out.

After the media interviews wrapped up, Ethan and I descended from the stage.

“I’m sorry,” I said, feeling guilty. “This was supposed to be our celebration, but I’ve turned it into a drama show.”

Ethan just pulled me close, his embrace warm. “Lily, you don’t need to apologize. I’m the one who was late, letting you suffer so much. You didn’t deserve any of that.”

Though I still wasn’t fully sure why Ethan was marrying me, his words gave me the security I needed. For the first time in a long time, I felt truly protected.

At that moment, one of Ethan’s friends came over with champagne in hand, his tone light with amusement. “Sis, you have no idea! Two years ago, when you didn’t choose him, this guy dragged me out for a week of non-stop drinking! That week was the wildest I’ve ever seen him!”

“He’s always been a workaholic, laser-focused on his career, but after that week? He was completely out of control.”

“But after that, he shifted his focus to Switzerland, pouring everything into research for rehabilitation medicine…”

“Honestly, if I were a girl, I’d fall for a guy like that. So dedicated.”

Switzerland. The pieces fell into place. I remembered the company that provided the free trial medical equipment my doctor mentioned, it was based in Switzerland.

I turned to Ethan, a sudden thought striking me. “Could your company be… the Moonlight Medical Group in Switzerland?”
