Chapter 14
Dewey threw his cue away. “I don’t have a sister.”
The person immediately said, “My bad. I mean Rosella.”
Irritable, Dewey walked over. “What’s with her now?”
The person responded, “Nothing much. But it seems she’s half–frozen.”
The inside of the mountain resort was always under a constant temperature, but it was near freezing outside on the mountain. When Rosella was pulled away, she wore only thin clothes. What was more, she walked up from the beach down the mountains.
Jillian, together with a group of people, including Elliot’s fling, tossed Rosella into the sea and asked her to stand in the waves. Rosella felt the endless waves against her legs, and the coldness was chilling, making her shiver. But whenever she wanted to come ashore, Jillian would have someone aim a laser pointer at her eyes.
The intense light left her blinded temporarily, causing her to fall into the seawater several times. At night, the tide rose, and she nearly froze or drowned.
Of course, she was a complete mess when she walked back.
As she walked into the lobby of the north wing, she immediately drew the attention of the people present, who were all mocking her and whispering among themselves. Somehow, their voices were even more chilling than the waves.
She walked forward without looking up. When walking past Millard, she didn’t stop either, no longer caring about the fact that a woman was

beside him.
Then she went back to her room under the scrutinizing and mocking
gazes.
This time, even Dewey couldn’t bear to ridicule. He patted Millard’s shoulder. “How did she… I had no idea.”
Taking away Dewey’s hand, Millard said, his voice as cold as Rosella’s body temperature, “Happy now?”
He was asking Dewey as well as himself.
Whoever soaked in seawater for so long–would definitely fall seriously
ill.
Rosella had a high fever that very night.
Dewey called the doctor at the resort over. She had fever reducers and an injection, but her body was still burning. Even her cheeks turned sickly red.
He wanted to punish her, but only within boundaries. If she died, Mollie wouldn’t forgive him.
Rosella sometimes felt hot and sometimes felt cold. She muttered unconsciously, her lips dry, her voice barely audible. It seemed she was in fear as she frowned tightly.
When Millard stepped inside, Dewey was standing by the bed irritably, at a loss of what to do.
“If this continues, it’ll damage her brain, right?” Dewey asked.
The doctor hesitated, “Well… That depends on the patients themselves. Maybe her fever will go away soon.”

“Maybe?” Dewey’s deep voice was almost oppressive. “What if it doesn’t go away? Who’s gonna be responsible then? You?”
Dewey convinced himself he wasn’t worried about Rosella; he was simply concerned that Mollie would blame him if this got out of hand.
Suddenly, he looked at Millard. “Why don’t you take her to the hospital? Even if Mom knows, she won’t blame you.
“Me?” Millard sneered. “Why should I save her?”
Among those people, he was the one who wanted to see Rosella dead the most. If he took her down the mountain, he seriously thought he’d dump her somewhere out there.
Dewey said, almost pleading, “Do it for me. Besides, if she really dies, how can we have fun with her again?”
Finally, Millard agreed.
Rosella was lifted into the car and placed in the back seat. Next to her, Millard realized she had become much thinner. She used to be a chubby little girl, and every time she wrapped her arms around his, he could always tell her arms were so soft and tender. No matter how many times he pushed her away, she’d always come back to him without complaint.
It had only been three years, but now, she was skeletal, her body on the backseat reminding him of a piece of paper. As he drove on the bumpy mountain road, her hair covered her face due to the impact, and her thin chin and closed eyes that were exposed were strikingly pretty.
But there was a quiet anguish to her beauty.
Before Millard realized it, he had been staring at her for such a long time; even the driver sensed his gaze.

Upon learning about Rosella’s high fever, Mollie rushed to the hospital
at once.
After crying next to Rosella’s bed for a long time, she walked out and thanked Millard through tears.
“No worries,” Millard replied. Then he continued, looking serious, “Mollie, Elliot won’t marry Rosella. I was going to tell you the last time. He’s behind what happened today, and it was a close call.”
Mollie was stunned. “It never occurred to me he’s such a douchebag.”
Furious, she beat herself up at the same time. “I’ll talk to the Freeman family to make things right for Rosa. No one is allowed to hurt her
again.”
