Behind Rosella, Lorena screamed, feigning concern. Then she reached out to help Rosella up, saying, “Are you OK?”
Rosella’s knees hit the floor, already reddening. “Yes,” she said.
Then she took her clothes to change in a stall. Standing outside, Lorena asked again, “Are you sure? It was a quite loud bang.”
In the past, the two were close friends. When Lorena longed to perform, Rosella gave her a spotlight at her piano recital; when Lorena wanted to join her circle, Rosella brought her along. Rosella even gave her whatever gifts she asked for.
But when she reached for Lorena’s help after being sent away, Lorena turned her down with some random excuse.
One truly knew what indifference and cruelness meant when down and out.
“I mean it. I’m really fine.” Standing with her back facing the door, Rosella was about to put her shirt back on when the curtain was pulled open. Standing outside, Lorena parted her lips to say something but didn’t.
In the brightly lit, confined stall, what came into Lorena’s view first was Rosella’s bare back, which had been fair, smooth, and with beautiful bone lines–perfect for backless gowns.
Yet now, her back was covered with all sorts of scars in different colors, which was almost horrifying.

curtain. Her hands trembled as she put on her shirt, tears streaming down her cheeks uncontrollably.
She thought, “I hid them well all this time, but now, Lorena sees everything. All the sufferings I’ve endured these past three years are all on my back. What to do now?”
She walked out uneasily, wanting to explain it to Lorena, only to find the latter was nowhere to be seen.
Millard arrived at Blossom Club at night. The club was under the Dunn family’s name, and he, the biggest shareholder, was here to inspect.
Toby checked in with his ID and handed the room key to Millard in the car. “Mr. Dunn, you can go straight up. I’ll come back to pick you up tomorrow.”
As Millard walked out of the elevator, he saw Lorena waiting for him. She waved at him. “Hi, Millard.”
Irritated, he walked past her without stopping. During the past three years, she seemed to have picked up Rosella’s tricks. She chased after him, saying coquettishly, “I knew you’d be here around this time. You haven’t eaten, right? The downstairs restaurant still has some open tables.”
“Go away,” he said concisely.
She smiled and moved from his left side to his right side, “Come on. Let’s go.”
He ignored her.
“By the way, I ran into Rosella,” she said while observing his micro- expressions.

Though he remained calm and composed, his heart skipped a beat.
After walking a few steps, he asked, “What is that jinx doing here?”
“Hey, where does that come from?” Lorena smiled, though her smile wasn’t genuine or kind. “She seems to have changed a lot. But she’s still so high and mighty; she wouldn’t even talk to me.

Millard said flatly, “I don’t wanna talk to you either. Does that mean I’m high and mighty, too?”
The smile on Lorena’s face froze for a bit before she quickly said, “You aren’t the same as her, OK? She’s no longer the daughter of the Rowe family. Without the title, she’s nobody.”
As Millard was about to reach his room, he quickened his pace to get rid of Lorena, but she stayed close to him and even said more quickly, “And you know what? I saw her changing in the locker room. Her back is covered with scars. Who knows what she’s been doing these years?”
“What?” Millard thought she was joking. “Scars?”
No matter what, Mollie had been there, protecting Rosella. After Rosella was sent away, Mollie often asked Lamont to check on her. How could there be scars on Rosella’s back? Was she beaten? No way.
Lorena looked puzzled. “Yeah… I saw them with my own eyes. It’s horrifying.”
