Chapter 23
He was Millard Dunn, the only legitimate son of the Dunn family. He held immense power and had seen the cruel side of the world. When facing threats, he always eliminated them from the source.
Slapping at his wrists desperately, Lorena sobbed, looking as pathetic as a crushed insect. If he really strangled her to death, it’d be degrading for him.
He shoved her away, leaving her slumping to the floor.
Propping her upper body up, Lorena coughed a few times violently and snorted, unwilling to give up just yet, “Did you treat Rosella like this back then? I feel so sorry for her–she loved you so much. When she was kidnapped, her crush and her brother left her to death, and after she finally made it, she was seen as a criminal. When she came to beg you that day, you choked her like this, right?”
Back then, the kidnappers had asked Millard and Dewey to choose between Rosella and Angeline. They had both chosen Angeline over Rosella.
Being locked in the dim room, Rosella listened as the two men she loved the most abandoned her. No one knew how desperate she was.
Millard grabbed a glass of wine from the bar and poured it over Lorena’s face. “Piss off before I change my mind!”
Scared, Lorena picked up the nightgown from the floor, wrapped it around herself, and fled hastily.
Tugging at his tie, Millard felt utterly irritated and gulped a glass of wine in one go. The scene that day emerged in his mind again; when

choosing between Rosella and Angeline, he had figured Dewey would choose Rosella–after all, Dewey was her brother,
Apparently, Dewey had thought Millard would choose Rosella, which led to the tragedy.
The wine didn’t make the irritation go away. Instead, he felt hotter and hotter, and even the blood in his body started to boil. He unbuttoned his collar and gasped for air, but the heat only intensified.
Just then, the doorbell rang, and the sound was amplified because of the drug effects, making the veins on his forehead throb.
As soon as he opened the door, Rosella felt a wave of scorching heat. She stood at the door and asked tentatively, not stepping inside, “Ms. Esparza said you wanted to see me…”
Millard recognized Rosella’s voice.
He yanked her inside by her hand, and her back slammed against the wall of the entryway while her shoulders were gripped by his hands with great force. Her world spun, and what came into her view was Millard’s bloodshot eyes.
He was breathing rapidly while trying his best to fight against his lust. The corners of his eyes turned crimson red as he bent down, reaching for her neck to kiss her while shaking his head to force himself to stay clear–minded.
Grasping her hand, he pressed his scorching lips against her neck and couldn’t help but say, “Who said you could be here? Get out! Now!”
Rosella was utterly puzzled. Why was he acting like this? And why did Lorena trick her into coming here?
She didn’t know the answers; what she did know was under his great force, her wrist might break at any second.

Millard was a tall, beefy man, and when he lowered his head, his body enveloped hers entirely. She said tentatively, “What happened to you…”
Before she could finish speaking, he lowered his head and leaned closer, and she could feel his warm breath on her ear and hair. Gripping her chin, he started to kiss her neck and lips. As he pried open her lips and teeth with his tongue, she tasted the bittersweet wine and suddenly realized something.
She had taken that kind of drug before and knew very well how much it made one suffer.
No wonder Millard was acting so crazily. He just wanted to satisfy his physical needs, and who the target was didn’t mean anything to him.
Taking the chance when he loosened his grip a bit, she tilted her body and dodged away. Without any support, he slid down the wall and slumped to the floor. He felt utterly thirsty, and his face flushed. His eyes were unfocused, and his usually handsome face was tinged with defeat and eagerness.
Seizing the moment, Rosella rushed into the bathroom and filled the bathtub with cold water. If she didn’t do anything, something bad would happen. She couldn’t walk away; if so, he’d die.
Soon, cold water filled the tub.
She helped Millard over as he drifted in and out of soberness. Under his unfocused gaze, her reflection flickered. Though her hair was messy, and her face was flushing, her eyes were utterly calm and composed.
As she placed him in the tub, he subconsciously pulled her in with him.
Half of her upper body sank into the water as he kissed her neck.

Panicking, she flailed in the water to get away, but the water rushed into her nose and mouth, making her cough violently. Then he lifted her chin and pinned her hands at the slippery edge of the tub. Amidst her struggle, her clothes were soaked through and had become translucent.
His shirt was pressed against her skin, and she felt his heat clearly.
But she was clear–headed, and she knew she must put an end to this madness right now. But it was too late; he had already torn open her collar. Her button popped off as she felt the icy water as well as his scalding palms.
He kissed her neck again while more of her skin lay exposed under his gaze. As tears streamed down her cheeks, she was about to surrender when suddenly, the doorbell rang. She immediately looked over and started to struggle again.
