Chapter 4
David suddenly stammered, “I… what…” he said. He seemed unable to accept the reality that I was truly stabbed and our baby had died.
I opened my mouth to speak, but collapsed into unconsciousness due to excessive blood
loss.
When I woke up again, my stomach wound was bandaged, and the doctor had hung an IV.
David walked into the room casually when he saw me awake. The shock had vanished from his face, with no trace of guilt, just a dismissive glance, “I asked my mom about everything. Today was indeed my mistake. I didn’t expect Ryan to actually find our neighborhood,” he
said.
“I’ll treat you better from now on. Consider it compensation. Don’t be sad about losing the baby. These are small matters. How can an unborn infant compare to someone who’s lived for over twenty years?” he continued.
“Today, you did a good deed by letting me go save Ashley. She’ll thank you,” David said. He looked down at me, waiting for my approval.
I frowned, staring coldly at him, “You think this is how you’ll resolve me almost dying and losing our child?” I said.
I wondered how worthless I was in David’s eyes to think a simple promise of being nicer could offset the twenty stab wounds from Ryan.
He even believed Ashley would thank me and that I should be happy about it.
David paused, slightly furrowing his brow, “What else? You’re not going to make a big deal out of this small incident, are you?” he said.
I remained silent, picking up my phone to edit a message to the police.
Just as I was about to send, two police officers entered the room.

Chapter 4
They seemed to have already interrogated Ryan.
David’s usually arrogant face showed a rare crack when he saw the police.

He tried to leave the room nonchalantly but was stopped by the officers, “You’re suspected of illegal activities. Please come with us,” they said.
David’s face darkened. He began loudly defending himself, claiming he didn’t know Ryan.
I raised my hand, “Officers, I can testify about Ryan,” I said.
“Moreover, I want to report that David just violently assaulted me in this hospital room, nearly killing me. You can check the surveillance. The doctors and nurses are witnesses,” I
continued.
David looked at me in disbelief, shocked that I would tell the police.
“Are you crazy? Didn’t we just settle this?” he said, trying to reach out and hit me.
But the police restrained him. He could only glare at me, looking slightly disheveled.
I felt a small satisfaction, coldly looking at him, “David, I’ll follow every single legal procedure regarding today’s injury and miscarriage,” I said.
“I’ll have you arrested first, then discuss divorce. As for Ashley, I won’t let her off either.
When you get out, you’ll see her miserable situation,” I warned.
Reborn in this life, I must make them both pay!
Mentioning Ashley made David’s handsome face twist slightly, “I’m warning you. If you dare harm Ashley, I’ll fight you when I get out! If she suffers even a little, I’ll return it
tenfold!” he shouted.
“You always say I don’t trust you. But have you reflected on why? It’s your actions that made me unable to trust you!” he continued.
The police took David away. He continued cursing me.

Chapter 4
After a minute, the room finally became quiet.
I closed my eyes to rest, but suddenly recalled my history with David.
It was a deeply humiliating love story.
I first met David through a friend’s introduction.
