CHAPTER 77

ADAM’S POV

As I listen to Aria recounting all the wrongs done to her by Eva and my mother, a profound sense of shame washes over me. How could I have allowed everyone to trample on her like this? Who treats their wife in such a despicable manner

The weight of guilt settles heavily on my shoulders as I realize the extent of my negligence and complicity in allowing Aria to suffer. Each accusation from Aria serves as a painful reminder of my failure to protect her, and I’m overwhelmed by a surge of regret and remorse

As Aria points out, I bear the blame for everything that has transpired. Since Dad’s passing, I’ve endeavored to fulfill the role of a father figure to Eva, assuming responsibility for her wellbeing

However, in my efforts to protect and provide for Eva, I realize that I may have inadvertently spoiled her. She’s grown accustomed to valuing material possessions over people’s feelings, and I can’t help but feel a pang of guilt for my role in shaping her character

Despite my intentions to care for her like an elder brother, I now see the unintended consequences of my actions, and I’m filled with a sense of regret for the path she’s taken

Aria is right. What man would accept a girl with such values into their life? How will Eva be able to manage her home and children in the future if she continues down this path? These questions weigh heavily on my mind as I struggle with the implications of Eva’s behavior and the potential consequences for her future

Since when did you care, Adam? You’re responsible for this!”

I come to the painful realization that I was too cold and neglectful towards Aria. These factors, combined with her ongoing misery, have undoubtedly contributed to her decision to leave me. The weight of my actionsor lack thereofsettles heavily on my conscience as I confront the harsh reality of my role in driving her away

I’ve driven her away to the extent that she has found solace in the arms of another man, who happens to be none other than my own uncle, Regis. The revelation hits me like a blow to the chest, stirring up a tumult of conflicting emotionsshock, betrayal, and profound sadness

The thought of Aria seeking comfort and companionship elsewhere, especially with someone so closely connected to me, makes it more unbearable for me

I feel as though my uncle has plunged a dagger directly into my heart by taking Aria away from me. The betrayal cuts deep, leaving me reeling with a mixture of hurt and resentment. I can’t help but acknowledge that my uncle, with his maturity and success, poses as a formidable rival in this unexpected competition for Aria’s affection. The realization adds a bitter edge to my already wounded pride, intensifying the sense of rivalry and betrayal

My jealousy threatens to consume me, but the crushing realization of my failure as a man and husband holds me back from lashing out. The bitter taste of defeat tempers the flames of anger, forcing me to confront the painful truth of my shortcomings

Though my pride may ache, I know that succumbing to jealousy will only further tarnish my dignity

I have to stand for Aria, not because I want to impress her, but because she is right

Eva! Mom! Apologize to Aria, right now!”

My demand cuts through the tense atmosphere, startling my mother, Eva, and Aria into stunned silence. Their collective gaze turns towards me, eyes wide with surprise at my unexpected outburst

I sense hesitation in their reactions, but if my tone alone isn’t enough to compel them, I know exactly how to set

things right

I’ll stop your allowance and you can find a good job for your maintenance, how about that?”

At the mention of work, Eva and my mother both react with visible agitation

Soon, Eva caves in, realizing the seriousness of my demand. Though reluctant, she manages to comply with my instructions

AAriaI’m sorry.”

My mother follows suit, and I notice a slight easing of tension in Aria’s demeanor. However, the pain in her eyes remains evident, and she remains quiet, her emotions simmering beneath the surface

Nonetheless, I need to move onto the next crucial motive for bringing Aria here. So, I ask her one important question

What will it take to get Grandpa’s antique piece back?”
