CHAPTER 68
EVA’S POV
My mother and I are equally stunned when this bitch swipes her black card and the payment is approved. The collective gasps from those around us seem to elevate her sense of superiority.
Since when does Aria have billions? She was always the poorest and most miserable person I’ve ever encountered. The transformation is shocking and leaves me grappling with disbelief.
After the payment is through, Aria is supposed to give back the antique piece, but she does not.
“Hand it over to me now.”
My mother insists, her voice growing more firm, but Aria merely smiles at her, a condescending smirk that makes it seem as if my mother has just cracked a joke. It’s as if Aria finds the whole situation amusing, adding to the tension in the air.
“But I bought it. Why should I return it back?”
My mother persists, reiterating that the purpose of the auction is for Aria to return the necklace, emphasizing its charitable nature. But Aria remains steadfast in her refusal. The audacity of this woman, I tell you! We’re unable to exert the control over her that we once could. She’s undergone a complete transformation, even altering her entire appearance.
She goes to the extreme of insulting my mother, leveling the accusation of hypocrisy against her. It’s a sharp jab, suggesting that my mother is participating in an auction under false pretenses, bidding something she never truly intended to part with. The insult hangs heavy in the air, deepening the tension between them. 1
I find myself unable to stand by silently as she continues to disrespect my mother in front of everyone. Fueled by a surge of indignation, I engage in a heated argument with her, unwilling to tolerate her blatant disregard for decency..
To my disbelief, she shrugs and tells us that this is none of her concern.
“I came here to buy something and I’m leaving with what I’ve purchased. One billion dollars isn’t peanuts, you know?”
Yes, it’s clear as day! She’s shamelessly flaunting her newfound riches, which undoubtedly stem from her connections with a long line of wealthy paramours. It wouldn’t surprise me if she’s elevated herself to the status of an elite escort, trading in her charms for extravagant gifts and lavish lifestyles.
But despite the distaste I feel at the thought, we can’t afford to ignore the situation. We’re in dire need of that necklace. It’s a crucial piece, a lifeline that we can’t afford to let slip through our fingers, else we are getting into trouble
Lost in my own thoughts, and my mother, succumbing to Aria’s manipulative whims, Aria strides away with an air of arrogance and confidence, her posture radiating indifference as she refuses to glance back at us.
We’re exhausted from pleading with her, and I can’t shake the feeling that this must bring Aria immense satisfaction, watching us scramble for her favor while she holds all the power.
“Let’s go, Mom.”
After what happened, it is pointless to just stay here.
“I wonder where she got so much of money!”
I confront her, sharing my suspicions about how she acquired all this money, and she gives a kind of agreeing

smirk that only fuels my anger. When we get home, we waste no time in recounting the entire ordeal to Adam. We make it clear that we believe Aria has resorted to unscrupulous means to amass her wealth so quickly.
“What? You stole Grandpa’s favourite antique piece?!”
Oh dear! All what we said about Aria, the only thing he caught was us stealing Grandma’s necklace and going to the auction. But didn’t we tell him that we were supposed to get it back, but Aria took it?
“That bitch took it! Go retrieve it!”
Adam stares at my mother in anger.
“Better not use this word for Aria!”
Since when did he start defending her?
My mother insists that Adam go to Aria and retrieve the necklace, but Adam categorically refuses. Instead, he delivers a stern lecture to us, emphasizing his disapproval and frustration with the situation.
“Grandpa is sick and if he gets to know about the loss of Grandma’s necklace, can you imagine what will be his state?”
We see the adamant Adam not ready to get involved in this issue, but instead he commands us to go get the necklace back, we both flinch.
I gesture to my mother to leave Adam alone, and then I wink at her. An idea, wicked and clever, has just struck me, and I know my mother will appreciate it.
