Chapter 39
Kendrick had come to Kayson hoping to get the signature, but not only did he fail to get it, he ended up in a highly. embarrassing situation.
In the end, he couldn’t bear to stay any longer and left with
shame.
Tyson held a glass of wine in his hand and, having sensed something, said meaningfully, “Kayson, you seem off tonight.”
Kayson smiled, “What’s off about me?”
Tyson saw through the situation but didn’t reveal it directly. “You know what I meant.”
After handling the matter, Kayson didn’t intend to remain there any longer. “I’m leaving.”
Tyson was curious. “You’re leaving so early. What kind of woman could have you so enthralled?”
“You won’t understand.” Kayson took the cigarette butt from his lips and crushed it. “I’d give my life for her.”
“Tsk tsk, I never expected you to be such a romantic.” Tyson crossed his arms, wearing an ambiguous smile on his face.
He leaned in closer to Kayson and said in a low voice, “It’s her, isn’t it? The girl who saved you ten years ago, Talia.”
Kayson remained silent, and his dark eyes swept over Tyson’s face.

Tyson understood he had guessed right and silently congratulated himself on his cleverness in his heart.
He couldn’t resist teasing Kayson, “What’s the point of having feelings for her? When you were a police officer at the border, she pursued your nephew for seven years.
“If Kendrick weren’t so blind, they might have been married by now.”
Tyson offered a well–meaning piece of advice, “If I were you, I’d take advantage of the fact that she’s in an argument with your nephew and still mad, and coax her into getting married. Then it’ll be too late for her to change her mind.”
Kayson acted as if he hadn’t heard what Tyson said and walked out of the door.
After taking a couple of steps, Kayson seemed to remember something and turned back. “Where’s Jessica?”
“She’s at home. Why do you ask?”
“Go home and tell her to go to the hospital tomorrow to keep Talia company. I’ll send you the address later.”
Once he finished speaking, Kayson left without looking back. Tyson realized that he had been turned into a sort of errand boy.
“Jessica and I are having a fight. How can I go home? Otherwise, why do you think I organized this gathering in such heavy rain?”

Tyson took a sip of his wine, and just thinking about Jessical made his head throb.
The night before, it had been pouring down relentlessly, but as soon as the first light of dawn appeared, the rain stopped.
Talia had a really good sleep this time. She felt as though she had had a dream the previous night, but for the moment, she couldn’t quite recall what it was about.
“Are you awake?”
Still drowsy, a man’s voice suddenly reached her ears from behind.
Talia was taken aback. A man? A man was here?
She immediately turned her head to look in the direction of the sound, and her whole body went numb with shock.
On the other half of the hospital bed lay a strange man. He leaned against the headboard, calmly gazing at her with his striking eyes.
The man’s white shirt was a bit wrinkled, and three buttons of the shirt were undone, revealing the faint outline of the muscular texture on his chest before her eyes.
Talia furrowed her brows and wondered, “What on earth is going on here?”
Kayson slightly lowered his eyes and curled his thin lips. “So startled, Ms. Taylor. You surely haven’t forgotten how I ended

up in this bed last night, have you?”
Talia subconsciously tightened her grip on the quilt and regarded Kayson warily.
She didn’t even know this man, yet how could he be in her bed?
Kayson spoke in a serious tone as he tidied his shirt. “You were asleep last night and wouldn’t let me leave. You took advantage of me. I’m the one who should be feeling angry.”
Talia was stunned.
She had stopped him from leaving last night?
Talia closed her eyes and tried to recall. After the doctor had examined her last night, she had lain in bed and fallen asleep.
In a daze, she seemed to have had a dream. Talia couldn’t remember exactly what it was about. She only vaguely recalled that she seemed to have been wrapped in a warm embrace throughout the night.
Talia looked up at the man before her once more and asked, her voice laced with doubt, “Are you certain that I was the one who pulled you over?”
Kayson remained silent. He raised his hand and started straightening his shirt.
Just as he was about to fasten the third button, Kayson suddenly halted.
He looked up, and his gaze landed on Talia’s right palm.
Talia followed Kayson’s line of sight, and to her surprise, she

Had she really pulled him down?
Talia was at a loss for words.
She thought to herself, “Oh no… This is so embarrassing.”
