She rang the doorbell twice. The servant cracked the door open and peeked out.
Seeing it was Talia, the servant looked startled. “Ms. Talia, you’re back?”
Talia replied softly and entered the house.
“Ms. Talia…” The servant seemed about to say something but stopped.
“Are you looking for Mrs. Taylor? Mrs. Taylor has a headache and is resting in her room. She said she’s not seeing anyone.” The servant eyed Talia with pity.
Talia, a legitimate Taylor family member, had been sent to prison for three years.
The servant thought, “Now, she’s skinny. She must have endured a great deal in prison.”
“I’m not coming to see her. Where are my belongings? Where have they been put?”
The servant was taken aback and hurriedly said, “In the utility room.”
Talia thanked him and headed for the utility room.
All her belongings were stacked in a small box in the utility
room corner.

The box was thick with dust. Talia choked and coughed. She waved the dust aside and quickly located her ID card within it.
Talia didn’t intend to stay long. She closed the box and prepared to leave.
Just then, the corner of her eye caught the edge of the box.
There was a neatly folded man’s scarf.
The gray knitted scarf had likely lost its original luster over time.
Talia was dazed.
She slowly crouched down and gently stroked it. The warm texture remained as comforting as ever.
However, her state of mind had changed.
Talia took out the scarf and draped it over her arm.
She intended to take it and throw it away, toss it into the trash can outside the door.
After all, this was Kendrick’s item, and she no longer had any reason to keep it.
Just like her feelings for him, the longing was gone.
Unexpectedly, as soon as she stepped out of the utility room, she collided with the flustered Valerie, who was rushing in from outside.
Valerie ran swiftly as if fleeing from something.
She stumbled and tumbled to the ground, crying out in pain.

When she saw Talia standing before her, she was startled.
“Why are you here? Why did you come back?”
Talia shot her a cold look. “This is my home. Isn’t it normal for me to be back?”
Seeing the scarf in Talia’s hand, Valerie’s face instantly went rigid.
She knew the scarf belonged to Kendrick. Over the past ten years, Talia had treasured it, almost treating it like a precious heirloom.
“Are you going to take it and apologize to Kendrick? Do you want to win him back?”
Talia didn’t want to get entangled with Valerie. She replied calmly, “You’re overthinking it. I have no such intention.”
“You must have seen the news,” Valerie blurted out.
The news about Valerie and Kendrick from the morning must have already spread far and wide by now.
Valerie had hired the paparazzi herself.
Her initial plan was to use the intimate photos the pap ́ ́azzi took and feign distress in front of Kendrick, claiming that their affair was about to be exposed.
Of course, it was all a ruse, just an act for Kendrick.
She thought that to mitigate public opinion, Kendrick would likely go home and plead with his mother to change the engagement from Talia to her.

Surely, the Deven family wouldn’t object much to safeguard their reputation.
After all, if this affair was truly exposed and involved ethical issues, the Deven family would be plunged into a storm of public scrutiny.
The negative consequences would be far graver than simply accepting her as Kendrick’s bride.
It was the only way Valerie could conceive of to marry Kendrick.
However, she had planned everything meticulously, yet didn’t know where it had gone awry. The paparazzi had turned into TV reporters.
Valerie stepped out of the hotel room this morning and was stunned by dozens of cameras.
The situation had spiraled out of control! It had even been broadcast live on morning TV, and the outcome was disastrous.
Now, the whole country knew she’d had an affair with Kendrick and stolen her sister’s fiance.
She had no clue about the Deven family’s attitude, but nors said the Galaxy Group’s stock price had plunged at the market’s opening this morning.
A private scheme with intimate photos, meant to solve a problem quietly, was made public by reporters. Valerie was furious as her reputation was destroyed.
She regretted her impulsiveness. She seethed, desperate to

know who’d tipped off the TV reporters.
This had completely derailed her plans.
“Talia, you saw Kendrick protecting me in front of the cameras, right? He loves only me,” Valerie sneered, trying to mask her turmoil as she eyed Talia.
“Do you think Kendrick would even look at you if you begged him now?”
Talia was sick of Valerie’s nonsense. “Since you like leftovers, Kendrick’s all yours. I don’t want him.”
With that, she walked past Valerie, ready to leave.
The mention of Kendrick elicited only a blank look from Talia.
Valerie gaped in disbelief. “You’re really giving up on marrying Kendrick? Then what about that scarf?
“Aren’t you going to use it to win him back?”
Talia glanced at the scarf in her hand. “I was gonna throw it away.”
And with that, she flung it into the nearby trash can.
Valerie stared, shocked. Before she could say anything, shout came from upstairs, “Talia! What did you do to Valerie? Why’s she on the floor?”

Maeve rushed downstairs quickly and saw Valerie sitting on
the floor. She was livid.
“Did you push Valerie?”

Maeve stepped forward, helped Valerie up, and snapped at Talia, “How can you be so cruel! Stirring up trouble as soon as you’re home! Do you want to drive me crazy?”
Maeve examined Valerie carefully, relieved only when she was sure there were no injuries.
Talia was indifferent. She’d given up on family ties that night. “I didn’t push her. If you don’t believe me, ask her.”
Maeve looked at Valerie, who quickly said, “Mom, I accidentally tripped and fell.”
Maeve was taken aback. “Valerie, you don’t need to cover for Tally. Tell me if you’re wronged.”
“I truly tripped on my own.” Then, Valerie stole another look at Talia. “Tally, don’t be mad at Mom. She didn’t know what was going on and misunderstood you.”
Talia lowered her brows and curled her lips in a mocking
smile.
Talia, who was about to leave, sneered, “Mom, did you see this morning’s news?”
At this, Valerie’s face froze, and a flash of guilt crossed her
eyes.
Sure enough, Maeve’s expression turned cold when Talia brought it up.
In her view, her eldest daughter, who had always been obedient, shouldn’t do such a shameless thing and shame the family.
But the TV live broadcast had been so detailed. Because of

Maeve pursed her lips. “Valerie, you and Kendrick really…”
Valerie’s eyes reddened, and as soon as she opened her mouth, she burst into sobs.
“Mom, I’m sorry. Kendrick was drunk last night. He took me to the hotel. I was helpless and couldn’t resist.”
