CHAPTER 85
ÁRIA’S POV
Grandpa isn’t easily fooled. As days go by with Adam still lying in the hospital, my routine visits do little to mask the truth.
Grandpa starts noticing the subtleties. He observes how I don’t linger after visiting hours, how I keep a careful distance, never reaching out to touch Adam. It’s these small, telling signs that finally clue him in to the reality we’ve been trying to hide.
He realizes that Adam and I are no longer living together. His piercing gaze, filled with a mix of disappointment and understanding, tells me he’s figured it out. There’s no hiding the truth from him anymore.
Then, he finally asks Adam.
“What’s going on between both of you?”
Before I can open up to him, Adam intervenes.
“Actually, Grandpa… Um, it’s my fault. I made her mad and she left home.”
Adam continues, explaining that we didn’t want Grandpa to be upset, which is why we had concealed the truth.
“We thought it would be best to keep it from you until we could sort things out ourselves.”
He adds, his voice heavy with guilt. Well, it’s definitely his fault. He did not think when he cheated on me and made a baby with Sophia?
Grandpa’s expression shifts from confusion to a stern, pensive look. His eyes dart between Adam and me, trying to piece together the unspoken words.
But Grandpa does not pry into the details. Instead, he lets out a heavy sigh and pats Adam’s hand.
“I just want both of you to be happy.”
His words hang in the air, carrying the weight of his concern and love for us both.
Adam looks down, unable to meet Grandpa’s eyes, while I feel a pang of guilt. Grandpa has been through so much, and all he wants is for his family to be at peace. I nod, giving Grandpa a small, reassuring smile, though inside, I feel anything but reassured.
I sit there, battling with my emotions. I never imagined our relationship would come to this. Well, was there any relationship anyway? It was just one–sided love, like a sunflower craving the sun but being cast in the night’s shadow. The memories of unreciprocated love flood my mind, leaving me feeling empty and drained.
Grandpa’s words linger, tugging at my heartstrings, but the reality of the situation keeps me grounded. I look at Adam, who is still avoiding eye contact, and I realize that no amount of pleading or romantic lines can change what’s broken between us. It’s time to face the truth, for both our sakes.
“Such a gem in your life and if you lose her, you’ll be the one at loss. Fix it before it’s too late.”
Now Grandpa’s tone shifts, becoming harsher and more scolding.
Adam looks down, unable to meet Grandpa’s gaze. His face is pale, not just from his injuries, but from the realization of how deeply he’s let everyone down.
However, Adam seems genuinely affected by the loss. I might be misreading his expressions and the longing in his eyes, but ever since he saved my life–something he likely wouldn’t have done in the past–there’s been a

noticeable change in him.
Grandpa suddenly gets up and says that he has to leave, asking Adam to take care. Then, he turns to me and requests me to be patient with this man. I just nod because don’t want to upset Grandpa even more.
He hugs me tightly before he leaves the room and the warmth comforts me. As soon as I turn my gaze towards Adam, he makes the most unusual request to me. This man is really getting on my nerves now.
“Please, Aria. For Grandpa’s sake, can you move back in with me?”
Adam wants me to pretend to be back with me because of Grandpa. He can’t be serious. There’s no way I can go back to that house after everything that happened. And isn’t Sophia living with him already?
I frown at Adam’s request, and he looks at me like a kitten trying to hypnotize me with his innocent eyes and face. But I’m not fazed by him. Just as I’m about to refuse, I receive a call from Mario.
Mario’s call takes priority, so instead of excusing myself, I head out of the room immediately. When I pick up the call in the corridor, I’m appalled by the revelations. 1
