CHAPTER 89
ARIA’S POV
Is Adam on drugs or something? Didn’t Grandpa already find out that we’re divorced? So why is he suddenly asking me to pretend we’re still married? I’m feeling a mix of disbelief and frustration. It’s like the ground beneath me has shifted, and I’m struggling to make sense of what’s happening,
“Do you even know what are you saying and asking me, Adan?”
“Yes, Aria. I know very well what I’m asking you.”
I stay silent, waiting to hear more of what he has to say. After a few seconds, he hits me with the most astonishing explanation.
The revelation hits me like a ton of bricks. I’m stunned, trying to wrap my head around the implications of Grandpa’s partial memory loss. The fact that he’s forgotten about the divorce adds another layer of complexity to an already bewildering situation.
“How is this possible?”
I am still trying to recover from the news and Adam keeps going on.
“He has gotten a deep shock. I believe perhaps deep inside he is in denial and hence his mind is jumbled up.”
“All of this is happening because of you and your mistress!”
I can’t contain my anger and I remind him of this fault.
“Please, Aria… Not now. Grandpa keeps asking about you.”
As Adam speaks, a sense of urgency grips me. The thought of seeing Grandpa pulls at my heartstrings, momentarily overshadowing my anger and confusion. Adam’s plea for me to come to the hospital as soon as possible adds weight to the situation, reminding me of the gravity of Grandpa’s condition.
“He insisted so much that I had to tell him you’re at work. He has no notion of time, any way.”
Yeah, lying to Grandpa is all what Adam has been doing. He is taking advantage of the fact that Grandpa can’t differentiate between day and night, but I guess, that will be enough to hold him until I reach there.
“Aria, please… Let’s do this for Grandpa. This will be the last favor I ask you.”
I pause, thinking about Grandpa. I’ve left Adam and now going back to that house, having to pretend to be his wife requires a lot of efforts from my side. I am tangled between the ill–treatment of the other members and Grandpa’s golden heart.
Reflecting on past moments of vulnerability, I recall a time when I fainted in the office and Grandpa, thankfully nearby, came to my rescue. His unwavering support during my times of need served as a pillar of strength, anchoring me to this marriage despite its challenges.
“Aria? Aria? Say something.”
The panic in Adam’s voice is palpable, his fear of my silence and potential rejection lay bare. It’s as…e’s teetering on the edge, desperate for reassurance and validation in this moment of uncertainty.
“Can’t you do this for Grandpa’s sake?”
“Everything I have been doing so far has been for Grandpa’s sake only.”
Did Adam suffer from a memory loss too? Technically speaking, I owe Adam for saving my life and I’ve constantly

been thinking how to repay his favor, for I never like to keep favors. All this time, I have been thinking that I will resume work and ensure that Adam gets profitable projects, since I have a lot of good contacts now.
But thinking of it, I can now kill two birds with the same stone. Then, I will be done with Adam and his family forever. After all, it’s just a partial memory loss. Once Grandpa’s memory is back, I’ll leave.
“Okay, I’ll do it on one condition.”
“Tell me. I’ll do anything.”
“Keep your mistress away. This time if Grandpa is hurt because of Sophia, I’ll not spare you.”
Adam readily agrees. This is the first time he’s willing to do something like this. Before, he would never bend any rules for his Sophia. She was his universe.
“I’ll not let you see her face even.”
Is that a promise? We’ll see how long Adam can keep it.
As he tells me to prepare to move back, a strange mix of anxiety and uncertainty washes over me. The idea of returning stirs up a whirlwind of emotions, leaving me feeling unsettled and apprehensive.
I agree and end the call, but the weight of the conversation lingers in my mind.
